Business can be a lonely road

“Being a Business Owner Can Be a Very Lonely Place to Be”

“80% of Small Businesses Fail withing 5Years”

“90% of Franchises Succeed”

What is the Answer?
By Ronan Kilroy

This is really a statement of fact rather than a question. Without doubt most business owners find the challenges they face alone to be difficult sometimes. Having someone to turn to in order to bounce ideas off, share a problem or just look for inspiration and motivation is something everyone working in a business expects, so why not for the owners also?

I make no apologies for a being a fervent advocate of turning to outside help, guidance, mentoring or coaching. Yes I have a vested interest in this, as I am in this field, but no unlike Brian Tracy himself who has a speaking coach, I have turned to others for assistance and guidance. I am working with a speaking coach at the moment. I attend as many seminars and workshops as I possibly can in order to keep abreast of the changes in my industry but also for new ideas and inspiration.

Success in Business Today

I have just recently revisited some Peter Drucker materials and was struck by his simple philosophy on business, in that it simply revolves around two core functions, marketing and innovation. I couldn’t agree more and innovation requires a fresh approach. Fresh approaches are rarely created unless old habits are broken.

If you have been trying without success to build your business you need to re evaluate your ways of doing business. Frequently this inability to recreate the success of former years leads to a tremendous level of stress and frustration in the business owner, and can knock confidence levels. This is a lonely place. The common response is to work harder but this never works. Turning to an outside source for help and guidance can often reinvigorate the individual and the business.

In the absence of this try a few of the following innovation strategies

  • Find new  products and services that people want and need and are willing to pay for at a price that enables you to make a profit.
  • Reevaluate every process you have in the business and question it’s value.
  • Aggressively reassess your marketing and selling strategies and be honest about their effectiveness. Quite simply kill them if they aren’t working.
  • Research different ways to train and motivate your teams. Morale levels can be at historic low levels but there are always solutions that can improve these. You can always build morale by providing more direction.
  • Read books, attend seminars, listen to audios and actively search out others who are a source of inspiration for you and learn from them.

Brian Tracy the world famous business expert say’s;

“86% business today are operating below their potential for sales and profitability”

“most entreprenuers have not really started a business. Instead they have created a job (which means Just Over Broke) where they work harder, for longer hours, and earn less than they would working for someone else”.

Big Thinkers Ask For Help

John Assariff said “big thinkers know that asking for help can be a critical step in moving beyond their own limitations. They aren’t afraid to ask for help when they need it, because they know that when we draw on other people’s experiences, perspectives, and knowledge, we become larger ourselves” Don’t be lonely at the top!!

Action Exercise

Start today and write down the main challenges affecting your business. The reasons you are struggling to progress.

Now rate your current business, sales and marketing strategies and their effectiveness.

Ask yourself having done this, is it time to change and re evaluate these strategies. Then ask if having some outside assistance and guidance can contribute to you achieving the changes you require to build the business.
