No clear goals is the symptom, action is the panacea

Symptom; A clear lack of direction, but will get to it someday.

As you know I am passionate about the power of goal setting. It is a truly amazing way to realise your future dreams. There is a caveat as with all things in life and business.

Goal setting is never enough it is all about how you take action on your goals that determines your success and nothing else.

One of the major considerations in defining your “Major Definite Purpose” or your overriding goal is identifying your critical constraints or your limiting factors. Those things that will hold you back from achieving your goals.

Ask this question of yourself. “What sets the speed with which I can achieve my major definite purpose”.

For example to be a successful manager you have 7 key result areas which determine your success. These are

Planning

Organising

Staffing

Delegating

Supervising

Measuring

Reporting

What if you are particularly weak at delegation? This is a limiting factor and a critical constraint that can sabotage your over goal achievement potential.

It is a major first step that you have firstly recognised this development area, many will avoid this level of honesty about themselves, which is a great shame.

It is nothing to be embarrassed about as it is like other skills one that is learnable.

Back to the point of my article.

The key now is to make this your focus and take the appropriate actions to make it happen. Actions drive everything.

Start tomorrow and find out what other great managers do and how they do it.

Enrol in an educational programme. Read a new book, order it tomorrow! Get feedback from your colleagues or staff tomorrow.

Make it your secondary purpose on the road to achieving your Major Definite Purpose.

Remember do put time in to planning your goals but never let the planning process impede your progress. Just get started and you’ll be amazed how quickly you can gain momentum.

Panacea; Do it now!!
