Those of you reading this are goal oriented. You believe in goal setting as a success strategy. You are motivated by your goals. You have some form of navigational tool to guide you to future success.
Some of you have even employed Brian’s 10 goal method and write your goals daily, impressing them in to your subconscious.
Yes there is an however coming up. However if your mind is anything like mine it is given to creating thoughts almost at will. It changes direction often and starts to make logic of the seemingly illogical. It starts to question. It starts to paint a picture of a terrible outcome. It brings to life a vision of an unsuccessful outcome. It starts to focus in on the negatives of the pressures the outside world seem to hold. It reminds you of the news headlines that businesses are going bust. Consumers aren’t spending (on a separate note, why can’t newscasters and commentators simply say consumers are spending less. And not that they have stopped spending).
So here’s the challenge.
You have been very focused and you have outlined your goals clearly. Why aren’t they coming to pass?
Because you need to “hold your thoughts”!!.
Let me explain.
If you have a goal to double my income in 18months.
You follow best practice and write this goal daily.
You even have an affirmation that You use daily to really embed the goal in my subconscious. You’re diligent and focused. You’re doing everything by the book.
You arrange to have lunch with a friend, and her business is going through the mills. She says “You know, there’s nobody spending at the moment. The banks won’t lend me a penny. The clients are obsessed about prices. I’m looking at our cashflow situation daily and it’s causing me real stress. I think this country is finished. There’s no future here for a business”….
Wow. This is tough to listen to. How many times have you heard this story this year?
Hearing is one thing. Accepting the thought is another.
If your mind starts to wander and you are being painted a vision of a pretty dire future. You start to reassess your goal in your mind. “Who am I kidding? How could anyone double their income in the next 18 months?
You are now in dangerous territory. Accept that thought, that language and your GOAL IS DEAD!!
But there is an option. “Hold that thought” and consciously dispel it.
Prepare for this with a positive affirmation. Prepare for this by counteracting this thought with a more positive vision. Do it as it happens, and you will be successful.
This isn’t easy however, and diligence is the key. Watch your thoughts and your words daily, hourly and you will develop a high level of awareness about what messages you give the subconscious.
Always remember the reasoning mind will look at things logically and unfortunately logic cannot explain everything.
The subconscious mind will only take direction in a positive or negative way. Choose POSITIVE thoughts and it will respond in kind.
Actions
Write down some positive affirmations and read them aloud three times a day.
Contact me if you’d like some great affirmations to use daily. rkilroy@focalpointcoaching.com
Consciously track your words and your language. If you are constantly saying “I can’t” then ultimately you can’t.
Your actions will follow your thoughts.
Think bigger. Think more positively. Think about your thoughts..
Best of luck.
