Reject Rejection – Focal Point Business Coaching Blanchardstown
Fear of rejection. That dreaded curse that afflicts you and many others. Fear of asking because, well we just might get a no.
No! How has this become such a powerful word.
It has the power to stop you from achieving your goals. It has the power to stop you from taking the first step. It has the power to allow your mind to conjure up the most unbelievable stories, and outcomes by just asking.
Before you go any further I want you to re read last week’s article
“Hold That Thought”.
Why because rejection is just that. A thought. Something you have conjured up in your mind. Something you have allowed influence your thoughts and hence your actions.
Selling is about asking. Asking is about accepting the notion that not everyone will say yes. Lots may say no. But so what.
If I asked you all to pick up your phone this afternoon and phone 20 people and ask them to meet you. What would your thoughts convey to you? Write down how you thought about this seemingly simple task.
What if you did make the calls and ALL 20 people said no? Would your world end? Would you suddenly become an “undesirable”? Rejected by everyone. Would people look at you differently? Would your dignity be ravaged?
NO!!! you’d be back where you started, but no better off. And that’s the point. Asking is never a backward step. The worse case scenario is that you ended up back where you started.
However there is ALWAYS the upside. You might just get what you asked for.
Rejection is just someone saying NO. Not rejection as in someone rejecting you as a person.
Become a collector. Some collect stamps, others art. Why don’t you collect rejections. Learn to trivialise them. Learn to accept them.
Learn to reject the power they have over you. It is just a thought. It can’t hurt.
8 years ago when I was trying to start a new business in earnest. I literally sat in a room with a phone for 6 weeks. 6 weeks of rejections. It wasn’t easy, but it’s funny that there came a turning point for me. I simply decided that it was just a numbers game. That I would get better, and that the opportunities would come. Every rejection made me better on the phone. Better prepared.
The breakthrough just came. A meeting. Then another. Then another. Then 15 meetings in a week. My success rates suddenly seemed to skyrocket? People seemed to be listening where previously they just didn’t.
Then the numbers came alive to me. I knew how many rejections I needed to get a YES. I tracked them. I enjoyed them.
The clients started signing up. Our team grew and they learned the secret of just collecting rejections. We knew that the effort ALWAYS paid off.
I’ll be honest. I’m sick of hearing people complaining about how difficult it is to get new business. So what? That’s what being in business is about. Overcoming challenges. If you aren’t getting the business levels you want, you need to ask more. You need to learn also to reject rejection.
Build up a mentality of abundance. Focus on the results not the number of rejections. The thicker your skin, the thicker your wallet will be.
Actions,
Start now and reinforce the mindset that rejects rejection.
Watch your thoughts and how they generate an irrational fear in you of the outcomes.
Write down these thoughts and review them for what they are. Illogical. Irrational. Replaceable.
Now count the rejections and find how many it takes to get a yes. Make it a game. It’s just a numbers game really.
Best of luck.
